Brewyard vs CrewAI
These two get compared because both say multi-agent, but they are different kinds of thing. CrewAI is an open-source framework for developers. Brewyard is a hosted service for people with work to delegate. Which one fits depends on who is going to run it.
Who each one is for
CrewAI
CrewAI is an open-source Python framework for building multi-agent systems, and a widely adopted one. You define the agents, their tools and their process in code; you choose the infrastructure; you own every layer. If you are a developer who wants that control — or agents are becoming part of your own product — it is the right kind of tool, and Brewyard is not trying to replace it.
Brewyard
Brewyard is a hosted agent team. You write a paragraph about your project; Brewyard assembles the team — a CEO to hold the brief, a project manager to split it, the specialists the work needs — and it runs in your browser on your own Anthropic key. No code, no servers, no maintenance rota, and the paperwork a business asks for: hosting in Azure UK South (London), a DPA, a published sub-processor list.
At a glance
| Aspect | CrewAI | Brewyard |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An open-source Python framework | A hosted service in your browser |
| How you direct it | You write and maintain code | You write a one-paragraph brief |
| Hosting and upkeep | Yours to arrange, run and update | Ours — an isolated container per workspace in Azure UK South (London) |
| Models | Decided in your code, wired up by you | Claude, on your own Anthropic key, with no markup on usage |
| What it costs | The framework is free; you pay for infrastructure, model usage and engineering time | A platform subscription, plus model usage billed to you directly by Anthropic |
| Compliance paperwork | Yours to assemble around your deployment | DPA, published sub-processor list and data flow diagram |
| Spend control | Whatever you build in | A monthly ceiling — warned at 75%, stopped at 95%, enforced by the platform |
Three questions that actually decide it
Who is going to build and run it?
CrewAI assumes a developer with the time to write, deploy and maintain an agent system — and gives them real power in return. If that person exists on your team and this is worth their hours, use CrewAI. If nobody is going to own a codebase, a hosted team you brief in plain English is the honest alternative.
Is the agent system your product, or a tool for your work?
If you are embedding agents into something you sell, you want a framework — you need the control, and the engineering effort earns its keep. If agents are simply how work gets done — research, briefs, analysis, documents for clients — the system itself is not your business, and Brewyard exists so you do not have to build one.
Who answers for the data?
Run CrewAI yourself and the compliance surface is yours: where it is hosted, who the sub-processors are, what you can sign. That is genuine freedom, and genuine work. Brewyard's answers ship with the product: Azure UK South (London) for what we store, model inference on your own Anthropic key, a DPA, a published sub-processor list and data flow diagram.
The honest summary
If you write Python and want to own every layer, use CrewAI — the adoption it has is deserved, and a hosted product would only get in your way. Brewyard is for the other situation: the work is a brief rather than a codebase, nobody wants to run infrastructure, and the buyer needs data residency, a DPA and a ceiling on spend before the first agent starts. One is a toolkit and the other is a team — choose by the person who will use it, not by the feature lists.
